Petite Fashion Challeneg 3 : The Look for Less

The Look for Less as hosted by Petite Little Girl puts the challenge of recreating an outfit of your favorite celebrity. This particular challenge was extremely difficult as I'm not really into celebrity scouting or following of magazines too much. I typically stay in my comfort of Martha Steward, Simple Living and a few Physical Reviews journals.

So, as a procrastinator, I naturally waited until the begining of this week to worry about what and how I'm going to pull anything off... which led to mild desperation, hahaha. I thought about it and scurry through Frugal Fashion, in hopes of finding someone I have mild memories of seeing or hearing and then pick an outfit that strikes me more than a few seconds.

I found many... most seems to be centered around three people, a model, an actress and I believe someone from the Hill's spin-off, the City. I couldn't decide on either one so I attempted at both.

So, first up is Olivia Palermo, left, in a military inspired outfit with boots, a buckle belt with a military colored jacket. Right is Alexa Chung in a very relaxed outfit that screams English to me. I like the oxford shoes, which why I particularly love this outfit. I like the relaxed fit of the top with a hint of a thin belt for shape.

I don't particularly have any of the items, but I tried to recreate the shape and the texture as well as the overall presentation. It was difficult as I'm not at all near their body built, but the outfits are something I would totally try to work on me.

I tried to recreate Olivia's outfit by building off of my modest and monotone wardrobe by playing with the overall style and the outlines. In place of her military jacket, I used my more spring-ish trench coat. Since the coat overall was very bright in color, I didn't want to overwhelm the outfit with more popping colors, so I opted for a pastel solid lavender flower ruffle tank. It wasn't too much color and suited well with my more pastel coat. As to imitate the black silhouette, I took to my onesie and it pretty much toned down everything. I didn't have a thicker buckle belt so in my trial I used a leather jean belt and did a nifty loop to secure it around my waist. I wore black equestrian boots to keep the clean line..a after all my other option is a pair of black suede boats with leather fringes on the side =__=.

The second outfit is something I think I would wear more often. The outfit was particularly simple with a soft textured shirt belted at the waist over black shorts and oxford shoes (my love!). Since I really don't have the focal point of the entire outfit, I made use of the only pair of shoes that was at it remotes semblance to the oxfords. Since it's also autumn, I went with leggings to keep me warm. Alexa is considerably taller and has a more slender appeal than I do, so in place of the round neckline, I used a v-shape which elongates the neck. I kept the texture of the look and went with a soft over-sized shirt to give a slightly draped look. Again I used my black onesie underneath to give the appeal of black shorts. I paired it with my vintage pearl pendant and a similar colored scheme purse.

I apologize for the dusty looking mirror. It's incredibly hard to wipe them clean without using liquid detergents. I used home made soap and it doesn't seem to foam as much and dries quicker.

EDIT:

This schedule thing did not published at the right time. -__-

  1. Don't worry about the publishing thing, sometimes it doesn't work from what I hear! I love that website too, that's where I tried to get inspiration from. I love both your looks - love the first one for office and the 2nd look is something I would do on a typcial weekend :)

  4. I love your coat so so much. It is not common to see bright colors in fall clothing but it brings some fun feel to the dark and dull weather. Really love it.
